Ferdinand announced his departure from TNT Sports in May as he confirmed he would step away to focus on "other business interests", while also spending more time with his family. He had worked for TNT, and previously BT Sport, for over 10 years since his retirement, and Laura Woods, the presenter, paid tribute to Ferdinand before allowing him to say his own, poignant goodbye.

Ferdinand signed out after one of the most one-sided finals in modern European football history, as PSG demolished Inter Milan 5-0 to become champions of Europe. Before the fixture, the former Leeds and Manchester United centre-back posted a picture on X, with the caption, "The Last Dance".
