da betcris: According to reports in The Guardian, Juventus are leading the race to sign £40m-rated Chelsea midfielder Nemanja Matic this summer after he was omitted from the Blues squad for their pre-season trip to Asia.
What’s the word, then?
da bwin: Well, The Guardian says that Matic has been training on his own at the club’s Cobham training ground this week after informing them that he wants to leave this summer, with Manchester United, Juve and Inter Milan among the clubs interested in the Serbia international.
However, United’s chances of signing the 28-year-old have dwindled after they beat the Premier League champions to the signing of Romelu Lukaku, according to The Guardian.
Talks over a new contract have stalled and it now seems as though the Blues are ready to cash in on the Serbian, and the report adds that they will try and get around £40m for the player.
Why does Matic want to go?
While he was a regular in the Premier League title-winning side last season alongside PFA Player of the Year N’Golo Kante in the middle of the park – he made 35 appearances – the 28-year-old’s chance of playing regularly next term after the Blues signed Monaco midfielder Tiemoue Bakayoko.
Matic obviously isn’t willing to not be a first-choice pick and is keen to go elsewhere to get regular first team football, and he will need to hope that he can do exactly that if Juventus agree a deal with the west London outfit.
Are Chelsea right to let him go?
If Antonio Conte doesn’t want to keep a player that isn’t happy and believes that Bakayoko will be an upgrade on the Serbia international, then he’s completely right to allow the 28-year-old to try and complete a move away from Stamford Bridge.
While he was key part of the team that cruised to the Premier League title last season, he certainly isn’t irreplaceable and Chelsea will be relatively pleased if they can sell Matic and buy Bakayoko for similar fees – especially to a club that isn’t a direct rival like Manchester United are.
What’s the verdict, then?
Well, it would seem to be the best move for all parties if Matic completes a move away from Stamford Bridge this summer, and if the Blues can sell him to Juventus for £40m then they will be absolutely ecstatic.
