SC Freiburg striker Papiss Cisse, who is on the radar of a number of top European clubs, has also attracted the interest of Arsenal, according to reports.
The Senegalese frontman has been in blistering form in the Bundesliga this season, hitting 13 goals in 16 games and taking Freiburg up to 5th in the league.
If Arsenal are to clinch the signature of Cisse they had better be prepared for a fight. Juventus, FC Torino, VfB Stuttgart, VfL Wolfsburg, Villarreal and Fulham are all thought to be tracking the 25 year-old forward.
Freiburg general manager Dirk Dufner has revealed that no formal enquiries have been made about the player, but admits that should an offer come in then they could struggle to hold on to Cisse; “Papiss Cisse has a contract with our club until June 2014 and he is a key player within our first team.”
“However, I feel that it will be a challenge to keep Papiss here.”
Papiss’ hot goal scoring form has also transferred onto the international stage where he has scored five goals in four games for Senegal.
Despite being second in the Premier League, Arsenal have failed to convince on many occasion this season and with Nicklas Bendtner, Robin Van Persie and Carlos Vela all struggling of late a move for Cisse could be the spark in the Gunners’ title push.
