Speaking about the 27-year-old’s potential return, the Reds captain said: “I think he is an exceptional footballer, he has everything, he has a great attitude and he loves football.
“So, of course, for me he would always be welcome, but it is not up to me.
“It is probably best to ask the manager that. The boys loved him, so if you ask any of them, I’m sure they’ll say they would love to have him back.
“But I think his time here has passed, he has moved and I hope that in the near future we will see the same Phil we saw here.”
Still popular
Amongst supporters of the club, Coutinho is not exactly the most popular figure. There is a sense that the former Internazionale man did not show enough respect at Anfield as he looked to force a move to the Camp Nou – there was speculation that he did not put in enough effort in training, whilst he also handed in a transfer request six months before his eventual departure.
However, in terms of the dressing room, he is clearly well-liked if the captain believes he would slot right back in at the club. He scored 54 goals and provided 45 assists in 201 games for the Merseyside outfit, and that level of performance will always see him appreciated by his teammates.

As Henderson says, his time at Liverpool has probably passed. The Reds have gone from strength to strength since he departed, whilst his failure to remain at Barcelona indicates that he did not make the grade with the La Liga champions. Hopefully, he is able to re-find his top level wherever he goes next – as he showed for the Reds, he has the ability to be a truly mesmerising player.
Elsewhere, Timo Werner’s signing could help rejuvenate this £37.8m-valued Liverpool man.
